For me minimalism is a way of life that allows me to focus on the things I love to do. So what is it that I love to do? Here’s my current list:
- Going to the beach
- Walking in nature
- Hanging out with friends and family
- Taking photographs
- Biking to a local cafe
- Playing board games
- Eating dark chocolate, and ice-cream, and hot chips
A life filled with these things would be a very full life indeed.
When I think of my ideal weekend I would either head to the beach or out of the city to go for a walk. Of course I would have my camera in tow to take a few snaps and if I can do these things with friends and family that would be perfect. Or a home day might involve some reading and playing board games with family topped off with a little baking. Doesn’t it sound simple?
When I plan a holiday my choices are simple, near the beach, somewhere with good bush walks or somewhere I’ve never been before. Well, it sounds simple but with so many beaches, bushlands and places I’ve never been, not to mention friends and family the world over it can be hard to choose what to do. But as long as I focus on including at least one of these elements I know that I will have a holiday that will have some great moments.
What’s not on that list? Watching TV (but Masterchef nearly made it), browsing the web, engaging in social media, shopping for clothes (or anything else!), and while I still do some of these things I try not to focus a lot of my time and energy on them.
So, if I own something it should be because it allows me to do one of the things I love to do, if I am going to spend money on something I should spend it on something I love and if have some spare time I should spend it doing one of the things I love most.
This is my minimalism, aiming for a life full of wonderful moments.
